About this reference
Microbiome Interpretation is an independent, structured reference for people trying to understand consumer gut microbiome reports, not a clinic, a lab, or a supplement brand.
What this site is
The site organises published microbiome research into readable pages about test markers, species, symptoms, diet mechanisms, and how report lines are often over-interpreted. Each article is written to separate what studies support, what is only associative, and what a single stool sample cannot show.
The primary entry point for readers with a report in hand is Reading your microbiome report, which routes common result types to deeper pages without treating the report as a diagnosis.
Editorial model
Content is produced and revised through a documented workflow: primary sources first, explicit limitations in the text, and per-page reading lists checked against the claims on that page.
Only pages with published: true in frontmatter appear in section
indexes and site search. Draft pages remain reachable by direct link (for review
and cross-linking while writing) and show a work-in-progress notice with
noindex so they are not promoted in search engines.
In-page banners track verification depth:
- Draft, full prose exists; reading list not yet fully verified
- Verified, sources read and claims checked against them
To list a page publicly after review:
npm run content:publish -- set foundations/example-slug
Evidence strength on species pages uses the grading framework described on Methods. Interpretation principles for test types are summarised in the Interpretation guide.
What this site is not
- Not medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment
- Not affiliated with any microbiome testing company or supplement manufacturer
- Not a substitute for a GP, gastroenterologist, dietitian, or other qualified clinician
- Not a channel for personalised interpretation of your test results by email
See the full Medical and educational disclaimer for limits on how to use this material.
Independence and funding
This reference is editorially independent. It does not accept payment for product placement, favourable coverage of specific labs, or sponsored pages. If that ever changed, the conflict would be disclosed prominently on the affected pages and here.
Corrections and updates
Microbiome science changes. If you find a factual error, a mis-cited DOI, or a claim that overstates the evidence, please contact us with a link or reference. Well-sourced disagreement is welcome.
Substantive corrections are reflected in the page text. There is no public changelog yet; corrected pages are republished on the normal deploy cycle.
Copyright and reuse
Original text, structure, and compilation on this site are protected by copyright. Brief quotation with attribution and a link is usually acceptable; republication of large sections or commercial reuse requires permission. See Terms of use and how to cite this site.
Accessibility
Pages use semantic headings, readable typefaces, and keyboard-accessible navigation and search. If a layout or contrast issue makes content hard to use, please report it via contact with the page URL and browser or assistive technology involved.
